Melissa Hansom Profile
Melissa Hansom is a new Contemporary Jeweller who has recently Graduated from Staffordshire University. After completing an Art Foundation course at Leeds College of Art and Design, she went on to study for BA (Hons) Design: Crafts in which her love for metalwork and jewellery soon became apparent.
Meliisa Hansom's new work takes a less literal inspiration from instruments and she has chosen to focus mainly on, stylish silver, gold and resin jewellery. Melissa takes elements of the instrumental theme by focussing on their main shapes and repetitive elements but often contrast these with bright colours in order to make the silver and gold stand out. Melissa uses the technique of oxidising in many of her designs which works very well alongside the silver.
Since completing her degree Melissa Hansom have shown at the New Designers' Exhibition in Islington, London, the Wrexham Arts Centre, Holmfirth Art Week and completed numerous commissions for clients.
Melissa says her main inspiration for her work comes from looking at Musical Instruments and focussing on their beautiful structures, forms and geometric shapes. Throughout her degree she created several large scale sculptural pieces in which to display her jewellery upon.
